DELANO CLOSES OUT 2006 THUNDER VALLEY SEASON WITH WIN

Ron Delano roared to the Late Model win as Thunder Valley completed the 2006 season Saturday night.   It was Delano's second 2006 and also the second career Late Model win at the track.  In other action, track Limited Champion Shawn McGarvey took yet another win,  Ashley Barrett took the Street Stock win, Charlie Fields Jr won the Pure Stock event and Rob Prinkley closed the season with the 4 Cylinder win.
Delano started fourth in the Late Model feature but was in second behind front row starter Rick Singleton at the completion of lap one.  He hounded Singleton but could not get by in the event which was slowed only by a debris caution on lap 6.   The pair were joined at the front by Scott Rhodes, Matt Gaston and a fast closing Steve Everhart, but Singleton held on.
Singleton led until he hesitated  while lapping Chuck Lepsch on lap 15.  Delano seized the opportunity and hot around the outside of both cars going into turn 3 and  took over.  From that point on, Delano stretched out a lead over the field. Gaston pitted quickly out on lap 16, allowing  Rhodes and Everhart, soon joined by Jeff Miller  to battle behind Singleton for the duration.
At the finish, it was Delano, Singleton, Everhart, Rhodes and Miller.  Shawn McGarvey, driving the Tom Gill 55 car led the second  group of five.  Jeff Shearer, Justin Swanger, Jack Thornton and Gaston completed the top 10.  Singleton and Everhart won the heats.
It was another exciting charge from the pack for 2006 Limited champion McGarvey.  He started eighth, but was second behind early leader Brad Kling by lap 4.  Doug Hardy , who had also blasted through the field with McGarvey, banked off the front stretch wall at that point and  brought out the caution.  After the restart, McGarvey shot by Kling and tore off from the field.  Kling fell to opening night winner Ted Gallaher on lap  eight and the trio ran in that order to the finish.
Behind McGarvey, Gallaher and Kling was the best run of the season for Tim Snare in fourth, while Randy Smith, Jim Sayler, Yvette Hahn, Bill Krause, Bill Burns and Dan Lee completed the top ten.   Gallaher and McGarvey won the heats.
The Street Stock feature had a bizarre starting lineup when the entire field except for Greg Cornell was late to stage.   At that point Cornell inherited the pole and the others joined in the order at which they came out for the feature.
On lap one, fellow front row starter Kristen Ettling's car sputtered  and she was turned in heavy traffic, causing a wild back stretch crash.  On the restart Ashley Barrett inherited a front row starting spot, got by Cornell at the start  and led the distance which went all green.  Cornell was second followed by Billy McClellan, Matt Hayman, John Swartzlander, Jonathan Hayman, Dave Whetstone, Kevin Collins, John Pahulik and Bill Pluta.   Dave Korlewitz and Barrett won the heats.
By far the best race of the night was the Pure Stock event.  Teammates Charlie Field Jr, Jamie Kohan and Greg Custer  were joined at the front  by Tom Warren and Gary Furman and ran under a blanket, trading positions every lap.   Fields Jr emerged with his first 2006 win in a virtual photo finish with Custer while Warren, Kohan and Furman completed the top 5  in a cluster finish.  John Saylor, Carl Snare, Devin Weyandt, Stacy Albright and Kory Shiley completed the top ten.   Field Jr and Custer won the heats.
Rob Prinkley completed a topsy turvy season which included wrecks and wins with an easy 4 cylinder win to cap off the night.   He beat pole sitter Dave Debivits, David Friend, Jim Hixon and Chris Booher.

MCGARVEY, BREEGLE, WEYANDT AND BOOHER SPLIT THUNDER 420

Shawn McGarvey, Jason Breegle, Chuck Weyandt and Chris Booher each won 20 lap features Saturday night as Thunder Valley presented the first annual Thunder 420 program.  In the larger picture, each of the speedway's track division titles were clinched by the event, with only one more race in the season.
McGarvey, the  big 2006 track Limited winner,  won again and staked out the division title at the same time.   McGarvey started sixth in the field but arrived in third in only the first lap.  But lap three he whipped around early leader Yvette Hahn and and stretched out the field through what became a cautionfest.
Robbie Black made it  interesting late as he charged from  tenth  to second  by lap 12, and in the late laps ran McGarvey down.  But Black ran out of laps, finishing four lengths behind the winner.
Hahn held on for third, followed byDerek Byler, Rance Garlock, Doug Hardy, Dan Lee, Doug Glessner,Shawn Claar and Mike Duck.    Claar, advancing from 22nd to ninth won the hard charger award of $100.  McGarvey, Steve Bard and Hardy won the heats.   Because of the large contingent of cars on hand, the field  size was extended by one and Nathan Lasalle  was added as the high point man not in.
Jason Breegle  scored  the biggest win of his career in the Street Stock 20 lapper.
Lou Orris was the pole sitter and early leader, grabbing the bonus money posted for the lap one and lap five leader.  Dave Whetstone, Willy Ling, Breegle , Ashley Barrett and Patrick McDonough among others made it a mob scene at the front  until lap nine.  At that point Breegle got by Orris but Barrett got by both of them for the lead.
Barrett led only five laps until his car failed and he came to a halt in turn 4.   At that point Breegle inherited the lead and held it to the end.  Jamey Swank roared into the picture late and made it interesting, but settled for second, ahead of Whetstone, Greg Cornell, Orris, Dave Sheetz, Matt Hayman, John Swartzwelder, Jonathan Hayman and Ling.   Breegle and Swank won the heats.
With his finish, along with hard luck befalling both Dave Korlewitz and Billy McClelland, Matt Hayman clinched the 2006 Street Stock title.
Chuck Weyant, in a rare Thunder Valley appearance, emerged as a surprise winner in Pure Stock action when apparent winner Brandon Lasalle could not pass the tech line.
Jamie Kohan was the early leader and he held off a host of challengers.  Finally Greg Custer got by for the lead on lap 4.  Jeff Benson led lap 7 before Lasalle got by on lap 8.   Benson chased Lasalle for the duration until he  did a complete 360 on the last lap .  Weyant, who had a flat tire on the white flag lap, elected to plunge onward to the finish and eluded the spinning Benson, taking second on three tires.  Weyant moved up yet another spot in the tech line and took the improbable win.
Custer then was awarded second,  followed by Bill Replogle, Chad McClellan, Benson, Kohan, Kevin Hunsicker, Jason VanGilder, Don Lybarger and Tom Warren. Vangilder, Benson and Custer won the heats.  Warren had a wild night as he was involved in a skirmish  with Travis Stickley on lap 3 and made several pit stops to  repair his car during the race, but clinched the 2006 track title by taking the green flag.
Chris Booher nailed down the 2006 4 cylinder championship with a win in probably the wildest feature in Thunder Valley history.  Dave Day led the first three laps before Rob Prinkley got by.   When Booher arrived to race Day for second place, the sparks between them began to fly.  Prinkley retired from the race on lap 10,  and  Day inherited the lead.  From that point on, the race became a bodyslamfest as the battle was for the lead and was wild.   The pair traded the spot several times and each time was accompanied with paint trading, with the two cars actually hooked together at one point and Booher got bounced off the wall on two separate occasions. On the 20th and final lap, Booher made a clean pass and took the win.
While it was determined during the event that both drivers were well qualified for the obligatory rough driving lecture and warning as outlined by the track rules, Day raised the bar when he crashed into and turned Booher on the cool down lap.  For that action, Day was disqualified from the event.  Post race behavior by Day and the crew  resulted in a suspension from the last race of the 2006 season and maybe beyond.
In the restated finishing order, Cindy Shaulis took second, ahead of Michael Lauffer, Todd Smith, Nathan Vinosky, Leroy Booher, Dave Debevitis and Prinkley, who returned after a pit stop.
Late Model driver Scott Rhodes claimed his fifth consecutive Thunder Valley track title with only one event for that division left in the season.
Thunder Valley will end the wild 2006 season on Saturday night when all 5 divisions return for thegrand finale.

MYERS RETURNS TO THUNDER VALLEY VICTORY LANE

D J Myers,  again driving the Preston Dietz car,  proved persistence pays as he won the Late Model feature at Thunder Valley Saturday night. In other action,   Jim Sayler survived a race long scare to snare the Limited win, as did Dave Korlewitz in the Street Stocks. Jeff Benson won the Pure Stock event while Chris Booher swept the 4 Cylinder races.
Myers got a late Thunder Valley start this  season but has really made his presence known in the last several weeks.  He started sixth in the feature as  front row starter Rick Singleton led early. Myers got around Chad McClellan  for second on lap seven, and the race was on.  Except for a quick caution on lap 13, the pair was nose to tail or side by side.  Myers ran the inside  under Singleton but could not get by until he changed tactics.  On lap 17, Myers backed up and whipped around to the high side, getting by Singleton in turn two.
After that it was off to the races as Myers pulled away over the last eight laps for the win.  Singleton was second and McClellan third at the line.    Jeff Miller, who spun on lap 2. came all the way back thru the field for fourth, ahead of Scott Rhodes, Ron Delano, Matt Gaston, Darrell Dick, Gene Kain and Jack Thornton.  McClellan and Myers won the heats.
The Limited event was equally exciting  as Sayler prevailed in what was sometimes a four car battle.   Yvette Hahn was the early leader until Sayler got by on lap  five.  But pesky Shawn McGarvey got by for second at the same time and was all over Sayler.  After a few quick cautions, Doug Hardy and then  Robby Black arrived to the front and all battled.  McGarvey and Sayler went side by side for several laps with McGarvey actually getting the lead once,  but Sayler fought back and then Hardy got McGarvey for second.  Hardy took up the challenge, running inside Sayler for several laps but failing to take the lead.  A late caution closed up the field and in  final two laps, McGarvey  roared back by Hardy and  tried one last move on Sayler.
At the finish Sayler prevailed by feet over McGarvey and Hardy.  Black, in his first 2006 visit was fourth, ahead of Dan Lee, Brad Kling, Randy Smithley, Ted Gallaher, Jim Whiteford and Tim Snare.Hardy and McGarvey won the heats.
Korlewitz struck early in the Street Stock event then had to run hard as he held off serious late race challenges from Jason Breegle and Greg Cornell. Breegle was alongside Korlewitz several times but could not make the big move.  He held on for second at the line, ahead of Cornell and first time 2006 visitor Daniel Cornman who ran down the lead group from 12th. Rodney Mock, Dave Whetstone, Willy Ling, Jonathan  Hayman, John Swartzwelder and Travis Brown completed the top ten.  Matt Hayman, Cornell and Bill McClellan won the heats.
Jamie Kohan led most of the Pure Stock event  before Jeff Benson shook free from the crowd.  Benson took over on lap 10 and led to the end.  Kohan held on for second, ahead of Jason Vangilder, Greg Custer, Don Lybarger, Eric Weyandt, Tom Spangler, Dale Claycomb , Justin Vaughn and Tom Warren, who was eliminated in a grinding crash late in the event.  Warren and Custer won the heats.  Warrens win came after  apparent winner VanGilder was DQed in his heat.
Chris Booher got by early leader Dave Day to claim the first 4 cylinder event.  He beat Karl Bailey, Michael Lauffer, Cindy Shaulis and Skip Hetz.  Booher was destined to finish second in the second event as Bailey led until the last lap when his car got sick.  Booher zoomed by the limping car for the dramatic last lap win.  Shaulis also got by for second at the line, followed by Bailey, Dave Debevits and Dan Hinzey.
Thunder Valley will not be in action next Saturday night and will return  to action on August 19 with the first special event of the season.  On tap will be the Thunder 420s with all divisions except the Late models going for 20 laps and extra money.

RHODES AND MCGARVEY ADD TO POINTS LEADS AT THUNDER VALLEY

Point and 2006 win leader Scott Rhodes added to each total Saturday night at Thunder Valley as he won his  4th Late Model event of the season.  Shawn McGarvey continued his Limited dominance with his own fifth win of the season.    Patrick McDonough won the Street Stock event while dominating Tom Warren took his seventh pure Stock race of the season.  The twin 4 cylinder events, each featuring a wild crash, were won by Rob Prinkley and John Bailey.
Shawn Claar started on the Late Model pole and looked sharp as he led the first four laps holding off a wild four car group.  Rick Singleton was second behind Claar but  he let the door open and Rhodes took that spot on lap three.  Rhodes got by Claar one lap later and was alone at the front.  Singleton got by Claar on the next lap and D J Myers got by on lap 6.
Myers got by Singleton on a lap 16 restart and set out after Rhodes.   Although he was able to close down the distance at the end, he settled for second at the finish.  Singleton was third,  followed by Ron Delano, Claar, Chad McClellan, Jeff Miller,  Darrell Dick, Gene Kain and  Troy Shields.   Jason Covert was a strong fourth on the last lap when his car let him down in turn three.  Claar started off  his fine evening by winning his heat. Myers won the other.
With a flair for the damatic Shawn McGarvey rushed from his seventh starting spot to claim the Limited win.  Pole sitter Donnie Hedge led the first few laps  until Doug Hardy arrived from eighth.  Hardy swept by on lap 5 but McGarvey arrived only one lap later.  After three laps of battle, McGarvey took over the lead on lap 9 and set off from the field.  Hardy headed for the pits on lap 10, leaving Randy Smithley to chase McGarvey, which he did to the finish.  Jim Sayler finished third, followed by Dan Lee, Bill Krause, Hedge, Bill Burns, Scott Daniels, Bill Pluta and Tim Snare.  McGarvey and  Yvette Hahan won the heats.
It was a wild Street Stock event as Dave Whetstone held off a ten car pack for several laps.  Billy McClelland got by on lap three and held the point until  McDonough got by on lap six.  McDonough held on for the win, followed by McClellan, Greg Cornell, Matt Hayman,  Ashley Barrett, Steve lowery, Dave Sheetz, Whetstone, Jason Breegle and Kristin Etling.  Barrett and Sheetz won the heats.
Tom Warren has dominated the Pure Stock division this season and this time made it dramatic as he won   by two feet after a last turn move.   In an event that went the 15 lap distance all green, Dale Wilt led lap one before Jason Vangilder got by.
VanGilder led easily until Warren shook free from the pack and ran him down.  Warren  caught VanGilder but could not get by as they ran together to the end.  Coming off the last turn for the win, VanGilder chose to  go to the outside and Warren ducked to the bottom in lapped traffic.  In the drag race to the line Warren eeked out the win.  VanGilder settled for second, followed by Jeff Benson, Jamie Kohan, Don Lybarger, Charlie Field, Wilt, Bobby Noel, Russ Hartman and Justin  Vaughn.  Benson and VanGilder won the heats.
Rob Prinkley won the first 4 cylinder event  leading almost the entire distance ahead of John Bailey, Chris Booher and John Sayler.   That event featured a wild flip in turn three by  Jeff Brown.  Prinkleys night went downhill from there as he was involved in the wild crash of the second event. Bailey won that event, followed by Booher, Cindy ShaulisJohn Burns and Mike Lauffer.

4 FIRST TIME WINNERS AT THUNDER VALLEY

Four drivers swept to their first 2006 victories Saturday night at Thunder Valley, two of them scoring first ever wins.   DJ Myers emerged from a thrilling duel with Scott Rhodes to score his first TV  Late Model win since 1998, before Winchester's Doug Hardy won the Limited feature.  Jamey Swank took a one night invitation to drive a car and turned it into his first Street Stock win, while Everett's Brandon LaSalle took his first ever Pure Stock event.   Then, Chris Booher and Dave Day took repeat wins the 4 cylinder runs.
Shawn Claar led the Late Model field to the green and led for the first two laps.  Scott Rhodes arrived from his eighth position and zoomed by on lap three and appeared to be on his way to  another 2006 win.  But by lap 8, Myers had arrived in second place and was closing fast.
When a yellow on lap 13 closed the field, Myers had renewed vigor.  After  stalking Rhodes for a lap, Myers got inside the leader and the pair went side by side for quite a few laps before Myers edged by on lap 20.  Once in the lead, Myers raced ahead for a several length victory. Rhodes secured second, ahead of Steve Everhart, Jeff Miller. Claar, Darrell Dick, Matt Gaston, Gary Beck, Gene Kain and Doug Glessner.   Rhodes and Myers won the heats.
Twice already this season Doug Hardy has had sure Limited wins taken from him when his car let him down.  This time he was not to be denied.  Pole sitter Dan Lee was the early leader until Dwayne Taneyhill got by on lap 11.   When Taneyhill and Lee tangled at that point, Lee  took over again.  When Yvette Hahn retired during the resulting caution, Hardy took the green in second and  he got by Lee only one lap later.  Over the last 8 laps, Hardy stretched out to a large margin over second place finisher  Travis Calhoun.  Lee slid to third at the line, ahead of  Tyler Hershey,  Kevin Weyandt, Taneyhill, Ted Gallaher, Tim Snare, Doug Glessner and Bill Burns.  Hardy and Weyandt won the heats.
Jamey Swank got the invitation to drive  the 96 car in Street Stock action and he made the best of it.  He came from dead last to win his heat and from halfway through the starting field to win the feature.   Ray Sheetz was the early leader and he held off a fast closing Dave Korlewitz and Swank.  When Sheetz spun in front of the field on lap 8, Korlewitz took over.  But Swank passed for the lead on lap 13 and  led the last two laps.  Korlewitz was second, followed by Greg Cornell, Matt Hayman, Jason Breegle, Lou Orris, David Whetstone, John Pahulik, Joey Pluta and Jonathan Hayman.   Swank and Matt Hayman won the heats.
Don Lybarger led the first two Pure Stock laps before LaSalle got by.  LaSalle then led the distance although former track regular Lincoln Ritchey stalked him for the distance.   Ritchey fell a half car length short at the line but finished ahead of Chuck Weyandt, Lybarger, Greg Custer, Eric Weyandt, Bobby Noel, Ron Wallace and Tom Warren, who was involved in a grinding  lap 2 crash.
Chris Booher came from sixth starting spot to lead every lap of the first 4 Cylinder event. He beat Rob Prinkley, Dave Day , Cindy Shaulis and Dan Hinzey.  Day  came from ninth to take he nightcap over Prinkley, Dave Debevits, Shaulis and Hinzey.

RHODES AND MCGARVEY EXTEND POINTS LEADS AT THUNDER VALLEY

It was almost a perfect sweep for the 2006 point leaders at Thunder Valley on Saturday  as four of the five division leaders won their events.  Scott Rhodes took his third Late Model win of the season while Shawn McGarvey won his fourth Limited event.  Matt Hayman won his first ever Street Stock event and Tom Warren continued to dominate the Pure Stocks with win number seven on the year.  Only 4 cylinder point leader Chris Booher failed to win as he fell  a half car length behind Dave Day at the end.
2006 hard luck driver Rick Singleton grabbed the lead at the start of the Late Model event.  He stretched out the field as Rhodes, Jeff Miller and Steve Everhart raced toward the front.  When Rhodes secured second place on lap 8, he started closing quickly on Singleton.  By lap 11,  Rhodes had caught Singleton   but on that lap Singleton's car again failed him as he drifted to a halt in turn one, just as Rhodes was charging by.
Rhodes assumed the lead on the restart, then held off Everhart to stay there.  When Everhart headed to the pits with a flat on lap 23, Jeff Miller took up the chase, but Rhodes led to the end.  Miller was second, followed by pole sitter Gary Beck, Ron Delano, Matt Gaston. Darrell Dick, Gene Kain, Shawn Claar, Brian Bernheisel and Everhart.  Everhart and Miller won the heats.
McGarvey made one of his patented exciting late race charges to snare the Limited win. As the  defending feature winner, McGarvey started eighth as Yvette Hahn led the early laps.  Randy  Smithley took over on lap 5 but yielded to Dwayne Taneyhill on lap 8.  Taneyhill appeared to be headed to the win, even after McGarvey took second on lap 13 and closed in.   The pair battled for several laps until a late race yellow closed the field.  When Taneyhill faltered on the restart, McGarvey pounced and grabbed the lead, holding over the last two laps for the win.  Taneyhill held on for second, ahead of Smithley, Doug Hardy, Steve Bard, Hahn, Dave Graber, Jim Sayler and Bill burns.  Hardy and McGarvey won the heats.
Matt Hayman emerged from a very competitive Street Stock event with his first career feature win.  He started 4th in the field as Dave Sheetz led the first lap.  First time visitor Greg Hauger  got by to lead lap two, but Hayman moved to second behind him.   Persistence paid off as Hayman got by Hauger on lap 8, then held off both Hauger and Greg  Cornell for the win.  Cornell, who traded second with Hauger several times,  finished third, followed by Jim Sayler, Ashley Barrett, Dave Korlewitz, Sheetz, John Swartzwelder, Rodney Mock and Billy McClelland.  Cornell and Korlewitz won the heats.
Greg Custer  grabbed the early lead in the Pure Stock event.  Warren roared into second spot and the battle was on  by lap 5.  Warren ran underneath Custer and the pair went side by side for two laps before Warren emerged with the lead.  He beat Custer, Charlie Field, Jamie Kohan, Russ Hartman, Dale Wilt, Tom Spangler, Kevin Bilger, Dale Claycomb and Bruce Claar.  Warren and Custer won the heats.
The 14 lap 4 cylinder event was wild.  Dave Day led early, before  Chris Booher took over on lap 5.  Rob Prinkley took over on lap 8 as the three ran together.  Day was back to second by lap 10 and passing Prinkley when he headed to the pits.  Day then held off  Booher to win by only a few feet.  Mike Lauffer , Cindy Shaulis and Kevin Lake trailed.

CRASH TO FLASH RON DELANO WINS THUNDER VALLEY

After totally destroying his race car in heat race action in his last Thunder Valley appearance, Ron Delano returned to score his first career feature win at the track Saturday night in Late Model action.  Shawn McGarvey again roared from deep in the field to take the Limited event, his fourth of the season in the Valley.  In other action, Greg Cornell and Rob Prinkley won their first Thunder Valley events in the Street Stock and 4 Cylinder events, while Tom Warren again mastered the Pure Stocks.
Delano, beset with some tough luck in 2006 in the valley, had reached the zenith when he backed his race car into the wall hard in his last appearance.  After a week off to regroup, Delano returned and made good.  His hard luck so far earned him a low point average and he won an up front starting spot for the feature.
He took the lead at the drop of the green by getting by Darrell Dick and then held on for the 25 lap distance.  Scott Rhodes and Steve Everhart arrived from  the pack by lap 6 and battled furiously between themselves for the second spot but Delano held a  dominant lead.  Several late race cautions, on lap 16, 20 and 24 closed the field but Delano ran off to Victory Lane.  Rhodes held off the furious charge of Everhart at the end to score second, while last weeks winner Jeff Miller took fourth at the line.  Dick, Matt Gaston, Al Zucolotto, Dave Padula, Gene Kain and Todd Bachman completed the top 10.
John Britsky crossed the line in sixth but he had refused to go to the rear after voluntarily stopping on the track during the lap 20 caution and was not scored after that point.   Britsky and Miller won the heats.
Point leader Shawn McGarvey again won in the Limited event, which started out wildly as front row starter Steve Bard spun in front of the field in turn one. On the restart, Doug Hardy got around pole sitter Dan Lee to lead the first lap and sped away from the field.  When McGarvey got to second on lap two, he  ran Hardy down and the pair battled.  Hardy held on for 15 laps until McGarvey got by. McGarvey then zoomed off for the win.   Hardy, who had a huge lead in the previous event before his car had let him down, again suffered malady as his car lost a coil spring late in the event and he nursed the ill handling car to a second place finish.  Lee held on for third taking the spot back from Bard on the last lap.  Bard, who rallied back from  the rear was fourth, ahead of Ted Gallaher, Randy Smith, Jim Sayler, Bill Burns , Scott Daniels and Derek Sala.   McGarvey and Gallaher won the heats.
In heat race action, Abby Ivory was in a grinding crash in turn four when she impacted the turn wall head on.  She was extricated from the car and sent to the hospital for further treatment.
Louis Orris led the Street Stock field for two laps until Dave Korlewitz got by.  Korlewitz brought out the caution on lap 8 giving the lead to Billy McClelland.  He only led that one lap until Greg Cornell, who had started eighth in the field, took the lead and then romped to his first win. McClelland, Dave Sheetz, Matt Hayman, Jonathan Hayman,  John Swartzwelder, Orris, Patrick McDonough, John Pahulik and Korlewitz trailed.  Korlewitz and Sheetz won the heats.
Tom Warren again started eighth in the Pure Stock event but again streaked to the front of the pack to score his seventh win of the year.  Mark Field got the initial lead before Greg Custer took over.  Custer led a wild five car battle until the top three cars got together in lap six.  Custer spun and Warren emerged with the lead.  He held off  Jeff Benson,  John Fama, Jason Van Gilder, And Don Lyberger to the finish.   VanGilder and Warren won the heats.
Rob Prinkley took the early lead then held off multi time 4 Cylinder winner Chris Booher for the win.  Booher had started last in the field and was followed by Cindy Shaulis, Kevin Lake, Shawn Oester and Tom Lauffer.

JEFF MILLER WINS SECOND AT THE VALLEY

Jeff Miller, whose last race at Thunder Valley ended with a wild crash, returned to Victory Lane in Saturday night action at the track.  Miller's win came in the 25 lap Late Model event.  Later,  rookie Jim Saylor emerged with his first career Limited Late Model win in that 20 lapper.   Ashley Barrett came from dead last  to win the Street Stock event.  Tom Warren  again won the Pure Stock event before  Dave Day swept the 4 cylinder races.

Miller,  after a season of rough luck at Thunder Valley, qualified for an up front starting spot in the feature.  He got by John Britsky at the start  and took the lead.  Through the early laps he stretched out a lead over the field as Britsky held off a fast closing DJ  Myers and Scott Rhodes.   A late race yellow for a spinning Britsky closed up the field  but Miller scampered away for the win.   Rhodes and Myers traded the runner up spot several times before Myers secured it for good on lap 20. Rhodes hung on for third ahead of a fast closing Scott Brode and  Rick Singleton.  Dave Blazavich, Gary Lyle, Ben Satterlee, Matt Gaston and Dave Padula completed the fast top ten.  Miller and Britsky won the heats.
Donnie Hedge led the first lap of the Limited event.  Jim Saylor charged by on lap two and held off the furious charges of Doug Hardy for several laps.  Hardy got by  on lap 10 and appeared to be on his way to an easy win as Saylor held off first Steve Bard and then Hedge for second.   Hardy drew to a huge lead but second was the place to be, as Hardy's car lost oil pressure on lap 17 and he drifted into the infield.
A surprised but happy Saylor shot by and held off Hedge for the last two laps for his first ever Limited win. Dan Lee had his best run of the season  at third, ahead of Yvette Hahn, Shawn McGarvey, Randy Smithley, Ted Gallaher, Tim Snare, Jake Griffith and Nathan Lasalle.   Saylor began his evening by winning his heat. Hedge won the other.
Ashley Barrett had been absent from Thunder Valley for several weeks but made a big splash in Street Stock action.  He started dead last in the 18 car field and came through for the dramatic first  TV win of 2006.  Jonathan Hayman jumped around  Joey Pluta to lead the first lap.  He held off a four car chase pack  for five laps until he spun in front of the field, collecting both Dave Korlewitz and Jason Breegle.  At that point eighth starting Pat McDonough assumed the lead and appeared off to his third win of the season with Matt Hayman in pursuit.  When McDonough misplayed a lapped car,  Barrett made a daring move and swept by  for the lead.  Hayman also got by McDonough and held on for second at the end.  Greg Cornell finished a close fourth, followed by John Swartzwelder, who had started in the last row with Barrett, Hayman who rallied from his spin, Kristin Ettling, John Pahulik, Doug Barclay and Dennis Collins.  Korlewitz and McDonough won the heats.
Tom Warren continued his hot streak in Pure Stock action with his sixth win of the season.   He got by early leader Don Lybarger on lap 8 and  then held off a late run by Greg Custer.  Lybarger held on for third ahead of Kory Shiley and Jeff Benson.  Warren and Charlie Field won the heats.
Dave Day Jr  in only his third start ran off to win his first ever 4 Cylinder win in the first event for the class.. He beat Rob Prinkley, Chris Booher and Karl Bailey.  In the nightcap,  Day liked the feeling so much that he came from dead last in the 16 car field to do it again, beating Bailey, Booher, Cindy Shaulis and Prinkley.

RHODES, MCGARVEY AND MCDONOUGH REPEAT AT THUNDER VALLEY

After taking all season to score his first 2006 Thunder Valley win, Scott Rhodes made it two in a row Saturday night at the track.  Shawn McGarvey took his third win of the season in Limited action, as well as Patrick McDonough in the Street Stocks.  A happy Jeff Benson scored a career first Pure Stock win before Chris Booher swept both 4 cylinder runs.
Rhodes started eighth in the Late Model go and clawed through the field early as pole sitter Colby Frye led.  By lap four he joined Frye, John Britsky and Steve Everhart at the front.   On Lap 5, Frye and Britsky tangled and Rhodes got caught up in it.  Everhart emerged with the lead and it appeared he was on his way .
Everhart stretched out a huge lead over  Frye and then Jeff Miller who took second on lap 11, but a yellow flag with two to go wiped out the huge lead and changed everything.  One lap after the restart, Everharts car broke coming off turn 4 and Miller, with no where to go ran into and clear over Everharts car as they spun to the infield.   Rhodes emerged with the lead.  Matt Gaston trailed Rhodes to the finish.  Gary Beck was third, followed by Darrell Dick, Scott Brode, Everhart, Miller, Frye, Doug Glessner and TJ Wright.  Everhart and Frye won the heats.
Ron Delano did not start the feature after a heavy impact with the first turn wall in his heat race.
McGarvey started fifth in the Limited feature as Donnie Hedge led lap one.  Steve Bard took over on lap two but McGarvey was already on the scene.  On lap six he got by for the lead which he held pretty much uncontested to the end.  Bard  was second at the finish, followed by Hedge, Ted Gallaher, Randy Smithley, Dwayne Taneyhill, John Kuzemchak, Dan Lee and Doug Hardy.  Taneyhill and Hedge won the heats.
In his heat McGarvey snapped a driveline on the last lap while leading and drifted across the line barely finishing fourth and taking the last handicapped spot.
Patrick McDonough started eighth in the Street Stock event but boomed into contention  by lap three. Ray Sheetz led the first lap before Dave Korlewitz got by, but McDonough took over on lap 4.  When Korlewitz spun out on lap 6, McDonough pretty much had the field covered.  Willy Ling came from 10th to claim second at the end, followed by Matt Hayman, Greg Cornell,  Jonathan Hayman, John Swartzwelder, Bill McClelland, Jason Breegle, Kristin Ettling and John Pahulick.  Korlewitz and Hayman won the heats.
The Pure Stock event was a wild one.  Mark Field was the early leader with Jason Vanguildre and Jeff Benson in pursuit.  On lap 5  Benson and Field got together and Benson emerged with the lead.  He held to the finish  and beat Jamie Kohan to the finish.  Van Guilder, Greg Custer Kory Shiley , Don Lybarger, and Field followed.   Benson and Kohan won the heats.
A field of 15 4 cylinders were on hand  and ran two complete features.   Chris Booher in a borrowed car took five laps to run down Dave Day, but took the lead when Day's car broke in the first feature. He then led to the finish ahead of Rob Prinkley and Cindy Shaulis .
In the second feature ,  Prinkley had the lead  until his car blew up. Booher was again the beneficiary and then he beat John Forshey and Joel Forshey to the end.

SCOTT RHODES SCORES WIN #100 AT THUNDER VALLEY

Scott Rhodes, although the 2006 point leader at Thunder Valley, scored his first win  at the track this season in Late Model action Saturday night.  It was a milestone win for Rhodes as it was his 100th career Late Model career win, dating back to his first  in 1985 at Windber.  Only moments before Rhodes' historic win,  John Swartzwelder set his own career milestone as he won his first ever feature in Street Stock action.  In other action, Dwayne Taneyhill took the Limited event while Tom Warren won the Pure Stock and Chris Booher won the 4  Cylinder nightcaps.
Rhodes started 6th in the Late Model event but emerged in second after a wild  first lap which saw him three wide on the outside passing cars.  He passed Gary Beck for the lead on lap two and appeared on his way to an easy win.  But a yellow on lap 7 closed up the field.  On the restart, Steve Everhart, who had taken second on lap 5, was up for the challenge and the pair waged a wild battle for the lead. Jason Covert joined in and made it a three car go at the front.
Everhart kept getting alongside Rhodes but Rhodes on the high side kept holding on.   Everhart actually managed to complete the pass for the lead on lap 16 but a yellow flag negated the pass and Rhodes held on.  From that point on, Rhodes was able to hang on for the win.  Everhart finished second, ahead of Covert, John Britsky, Jeff Miller, Ron Delano, Matt Gaston, Gene Kain, Beck and TJ Fleck.  Rhodes and Rick Singleton won the heats.
Dwayne Taneyhill, who last week left the track with a badly wrecked race car, returned with a vengeance in Limited action. Bill Krause led lap one from the pole and Randy Smithley led lap two  when Krause retired, but Taneyhill was the leader on lap three when Shawn McGarvey spun. Taneyhill led the distance  after that but had to hold off a furious challenge from McGarvey who rallied from the rear in thrilling action to take a go at Taneyhill.  At the finish it was Taneyhill by a few feet over McGarvey, Smithley, Yvette Hahn, Steve Bard, Don Hedge, Tim Snare, Randy Smith, Bill Pluta and first time starter Nathan Lasalle.  Smithley and Chris Rhodes won the heats.
Swartzwelder started 4th in the Street Stock main but had the lead on the first lap. He then held off the furious charge of Dave Korlewitz who was going for his third in a row for the win.  Korlewitz, Bil McClelland, Jason Breegle and Matt Hayman  followed. Hayman and Korlewitz won the heats.
Warren made it five for six in the 2006 Pure Stock action after he roared from his 8th starting spot to the lead on lap 5.  He then held off Jeff Benson for the win.  Jamie Kohan , Steve Fadley and Charlie Field Jr trailed.  Warren and Benson won the heats.
Chris Booher took the 4 cylinder event, besting Jason Cornell, point leader Cindy Shaulis,  Nathan Vinosky and Dan Artice.

JEFF MILLER RETURNS TO THUNDER VALLEY VICTORY LANE

Jeff Miller, who went he entire 2005 season without a win anywhere, roared back into form with a convincing win in Late Model action at Thunder Valley Saturday night.  After Miller's dominant performance, Shawn McGarvey wowed the crowd with a last to first last lap snatch of the win in the Limited event.  In other action, Dave Korlewitz made it two in a row in Street Stock action, Tom Warren won his fourth Pure stock event and Jamey Swank swept both the 4 cylinder mains.
Miller, a big winner at Thunder Valley in 2004, had been fast so far in this reopening season but had been snake bitten and shut out of a win thus far.  His rough season earned him a low point average and  a front row start in the 25 lapper.  He got the jump on Rick Singleton at the start and took off from the field.  Several early cautions  kept the field close as the field settled down.  Ron Delano jumped into second spot early and challenged Miller early but Miller stretched out the field at the end.
John Britsky and Scott Rhodes had a wild race long battle for third before Britsky secured the spot by the finish, followed by Rhodes, Steve Everhart, who roared from the back after a lap two spin, Bob Stokes, Chris Schneider, Jeff Rine, Gary Beck and Singleton.  Rine had a wild night  which included two spins and a pit stop when his hood blew up across his windshield, and roared through the field twice for the spot.  Singleton and Miller won the heats.
The Limited event started off wild and ended even wilder. Randy Smithley led 19 and 7/8 laps of the 20 lapper before having to settle for second.   The race was red flagged on the first lap as most of the field piled up  behind front row starter Travis Calhoun.  The resulting crash involved 16 cars, and saw Andy Fries get completely on top of Dwayne Taneyhill.  McGarvey, heavily involved in that crash was to spin out again on lap 3 going to the rear for the second time.
Through it all , pole sitter Randy Smithley led the event easily as McGarvey, on a mission with body parts flapping tore through the field.  McGarvey closed on Smithley over the closing laps and saw his opportunity as Smithley misjudged a lapped car in turn three on the last lap.  McGarvey dove into the turn, squeezed by both cars and stole the exciting feature win.  Smithley took second, followed by Jim Saylor who had started dead last on the field, Steve Bard, Fries, Dan Lee, Ted Gallaher, Matt Lees, Derek Sala and visiting Tim Murphy.   Smithley and Gallaher won the heats.
Dave Korlewitz also came from deep in the field in the Street Stock 15 lapper.. Handicapped to eight starting spot as the most recent feature winner, he joined in a wild six car battle with Jonathan Hayman led early.  Korlewitz finally edged in to the lead and got away from the mob for his second win of the season.  Patrick McDonough emerged in second late in the race and was followed by Greg Cornell, Hayman, Bill McClelland, Matt Hayman, John Swartzwelder, Joey Pluta Lou Orris and Rodney Mock.  The exciting 15 lapper went all the way under the green.  Cornell and Korlewitz won the heats.
Tom Warren made his fourth win of the season the most exciting as he caught early leader Jeff Benson behind a lapped car on the last lap and squeezed by for the win.  Benson, Greg Custer, Tyler  Hite and Don Lyberger trailed.  Benson and Custer won the heats.
Promoter Joe Padula had promised the 4 cylinders two complete features if 15 cars showed up.  That was great for Jamie Swank who  swept both events.  He beat Chris Booher and Shawn Oester in the first one and Jeff Brown and Dan Artice in the nightcap.

COVERT THUNDERS THRU THUNDER VALLEY AGAIN

Jason Covert, driving the legendary 43a became the first repeat Thunder Valley Late Model feature winner Saturday night as he took the 25 lap event.  For Covert, who missed the opening night show, it was his second win in only three 2006 appearances at the track.  In other action,  Dwayne Taneyhill rallied late to take the Limited win,  Dave Korlewitz went pole to pole in Street Stock action and Chris Booher won the 4 cylinder event before Chris Weyandt won the Pure Stock finale in a photo finish.

Covert, really hooked up in the 43a, boomed in to the lead  by the end of the first lap and held for the distance in the caution plagued Late Model event. Pole sitter Red French  hung on for second place early until overtaken by Scott Rhodes on lap 7.
French ran his best race in quite a while, holding off Ron Delano and Matt Gaston for the spot until his car went up in a spectacular cloud of smoke on lap 8.

When the race settled down to a long green flag run after lap 14, Covert  really stretched out the field racing to a huge win over Rhodes. Delano, who took third on lap  15, Gaston, Steve Everhart, Tim Gray, Mitch Hack, John Britsky, Rodney Sweitzer and Gary Beck.  Jeff Miller, Covert and Delano won the heats.

Unlike the Late model event, the Limited 20 lapper went through with few interruptions although it took three attempts to get the first lap in.  Chris Rhodes zoomed away from his pole position to lead until Taneyhill arrived from  his sixth starting spot.  Taneyhill took over on lap 7 and then held off a furious late race challenge after Shawn McGarvey ran him down.   A restart on lap 18 gave McGarvey one last chance but Taneyhill held him off for the win, becomming the fourth different Limited winner in the 4 week old season.  McGarvey, Rhodes, Matt Gaston, Randy Smithley, Dan Lee, Doug Hardy, Ted Gallaher, John Saylor and Travis Calhoun. Gallaher and Taneyhill won the heats.

Dave Korlewitz started on the pole and led the entire Street Stock event ahead of a furious three and four car battle behind him.   When Jim Sayler broke free of that battle he ran Korlewitz down and pressed him hard for the lead, but Korlewitz hung on for the win. Sayler took second at the line followed by Greg Cornell, Jason Breegle, John Swartzwelder, Jason Breegle,  and Bill Sheetz.  Matt Hayman and Korlewitz won the heats.

Chuck Weyandt broke through in a three way  battle to take over the Pure Stock lead on lap eight from Jamie Lohan.    It appeased that he had the event wrapped up until undefeated 2006 pure stock driver Tom Warren arrived late in the event.  Warren made it interesting as the pair went side by side for the last two laps, but Weyant prevailed in a photo finish at the end.  Warren, Kohan, Greg Custer, and newcommer Bill Vangilder followed.  Weyandt and Warren warmed up by winning the heats.

Chris Booher  went three wide to take the 4 cylinder lead on lap 5 and led to the end. He was followed by Rob Prinkey, Cindy Shaulis and Jim Vogle.

SINGLETON SCORES THUNDER VALLEY WIN

Rick Singleton turned adversity and adventure into his first 2006 Late Model feature win Saturday night at Thunder Valley.   Shawn McGarvey also grabbed his first win of the season in the exciting Limited event.  The other winners were all repeaters as Patrick McDonough won the Street Stock event, Tom Warren remained undefeated in Pure Stock action and Karl Bailey won the wild 4 cylinder closer.

Singleton excited the fans in the warmups when his car blew an oil line and  created smoky chaos, but returned  in time to win his heat event.   By feature time Singleton proved to be ready at the start as he wrestled his way by pole sitter John Britsky on the first lap.   The event was slowed on lap four for a spin by Gary Lyle, but then went green  the rest of the way.

Singleton who early on pulled out to a large lead, found a resurgent Britsky on his tail by lap 12,  and they were joined by Scott Rhodes and Jason Covert in the events waning laps.  Covert, who had to start deep in the pack, took third place from Rhodes on lap 20 and gave chase to the top two, but fell short at the end.  Singleton held off Britsky for the win, followed by Covert, Rhodes, Steve Everhart, Jeff Miller, Jim Bernheisel, Ron Delano, Lyle and Matt Gaston.   Singleton and Miller won the heats.

Pole sitter Donnie Hedge created some excitement at the start when the motor went bad in his car as the field took the green.   The result  was a wild scramble going into turn one with Dwayne Taneyhill taking the early lead.  Taneyhill led the early laps as the field was slowed several times by yellows.  McGarvey finally got by Taneyhill on lap 8 and managed to squirt away from the field over the rest of the way.  Taneyhill fell back into the clutches of Matt Gaston before Gaston took second on lap 15.   McGarvey, who had led the opening day event until crashing with a lapped car, this time sped away for a decisive feature win.

At the finish it was McGarvey, Gaston, Taneyhill, Randy Smithley, Doug Hardy, Chris Rhodes, Andy Fries, Dan Lee and Ted Gallaher.  Taneyhill, Gallaher and Gaston won the heats.

Opening day Street stock winner Patrick Mc Donough returned to score for the second time in 2006.   He shot by both front row starter to take the lead on lap one and then sped away as a wild  4 car battle raged behind him.  Greg Cornell, making his first 2006 start finally snared second on lap 13 and finished there ahead of Dave Korlewitz, Jason Breegle, Matt Hayman, Jonathan Hayman, Doug Barclay John Swartzwelder, Kristin Etling and John Pahulick.    Korlewitz and McDonough won the heats.

Tom Warren  kept his Pure Stock record perfect as he won his third race of the young season, but this one was tougher.  Handicapped to  start ninth in the field, he ran down the  lead battle between Don Lybarger and Greg Custer   and took the lead on lapo 12.  He then held on for the win over  Custer and Lybarger. Charlie Field and Jamie Kohan followed.

The 4 Cylinder feature was again wild as  Karl Bailey  emerged the winner over Chris Booher, Jason Cornell and Dave Day Jr.

Jason Covert made his first 2006 Thunder Valley start worthwhile as he scored his first ever Thunder Valley feature win Saturday night.  Covert's big win came in the Barry Klinedinst owned 43a Which has itself seen Thunder Valley's Victory Lane several times.   In other action, Yvette Hahn became the first female ever to earn one of Joe Padula's feature winner hats as she blasted the Limited Late Model field, Jason Breegle and Tom Warren took the Street Stock and Pure stock events, and Karl Bailey cane from the rear to win the wild 4 Cylinder feature.

Covert started 5th in the Late Model feature as pole sitter Jeff Miller got the jump at the start.  After front row starter Jim Bernheisel broke  causing a first lap caution, Miller pulled away from the field.  Covert broke free and took second spot on lap 5 and chased down Miller. Once on Millers bumper Covert was all over him, finally forging ahead on lap  15.

Once in the lead, Covert took control, pulling away from Miller and the advancing field to the finish.  Scott Rhodes came from the pack to advance to second at the line after getting by Miller on lap 22. Miller held on for third ahead of  opening day winner Steve Everhart Ron Delano,  Rick Singleton, Gary Lyle, John Britsky, Matt Gaston and Chris Schneider.   Bernheisel and Everhart won the heats.

The fastest female in Pennsylvania, Yvette Hahn,  took a little bit of luck  and ran with it to score the win in the 20 lap Limited feature.  Dwayne Taneyhilll had jumped into the lead at the start , mounting a huge lead, but his car malfunctioned and he spun in front of the field on a lap 7 restart.   With Taneyhilll in the pits,  Hahn took over and held off furious charges from Shawn McGarvey  for ten laps to hold on.  McGarveys car began to fade over the last few laps though, allowing Hahn to score the long awaited win.  McGarvey was second, followed by Ted Gallaher, Dan Lee, Chris Rhodes, Donnie Hedge, Gary Stahl, Steve Bard, John Kuzemchak and  Travis Calhoun.   McGarvey and Taneyhill won the heats.

Jason Breegle made his first 2006 Thunder Valley start his first feature win as he  won out in a wild three car battle.  He started on the pole and held off Matt Hayman and  Bill Mcclellan for the duration.  With Hayman on the inside and McClellan working the outside, the finish was in doubt until the finish.  McClellan finally won the battle for second in a photo finish with Hayman. Jeff Detwiler came on at the end for fourth ahead of John Swartzwelder and  Jonathan Hayman.  Matt Hayman and Breegle  won the heats.

Tom Warren went pole to pole in devastating fashion in the Pure Stock event.  He got awa y from the field, lapping all the way up to the fourth place car in  the all green  flag event to score his second of the season.   Jamie Kohan was second, ahead of Barry Weyandt, Kory Shiley and Rom Wallace.  Warren and Weyandt won the heats.

Karl Bailey emerged as the 4 Cylinder winner in one of the wildest events ever seen at the track.   He took the win with a last lap move which saw the rear bumper of his car  broken loose and dragged it across the finish line after a race long battle with  Ron Tunstall and  Chris Booher.  Tunstall , Booher and Jason Cornell trailed  the winner.

EVERHART WINS IN THUNDER VALLEY RETURN

The Thunder Valley roared back to life  on Saturday night under the new promotional team headed by Joe Padula.  And the first feature winner of the new age Thunder Valley was a racer who returned to competition at the track after a long  absence as Steve Everhart won the opening day 25 lap Late Model feature. In other action,  Ted Gallaher won the Limited event, Pat Mcdonough  and Tom Warren won the Street Stock and Pure stock mains, and Jim Tunstall hung on to win the wild 4 cylinder evening closer.  Of the bunch, only Warren had previously received a traditional Joe Padula feature winner hat although they had all been previous Thunder Valley winners.

Everhart was the big winner in the opening day redraw to invert 6 cars for the feature events.  He started on the pole for the 25 lapper. He jumped into the lead at the drop of the green and motored away from the field.  In his wake Chad McCelland, Rick Singleton and Gary Lyle battled furiously for the runner up spot.

McClelland took the spot on lap 3 and got away before he retired on lap 4.  At that point Lyle was able to hold off Singleton until the race was interrupted by a wild multi car crash on the backstretch involving John Britsky, Jeff Miller, Rodney Sweitzer and Ron Delano on lap 11.

On the restart after that Everhart sped away from Lyle and a fast closing Scott Rhodes to claim the historic win. Delano returned from the rear to take fourth, followed by  Luke Hoffner, Chris Rhodes, Sweitzer, Gene Kain, Matt Gaston and Paul Carnell.
Gaston had roared thought the field to cross the line in fourth but had lost a lap during the lap 11 crash incident.  Heat race winners were  Britsky and Gaston.

Gallaher was fast in Limited action but the star of the event was Shawn McGarvey.  McGarvey  took the lead  from his fifth place start on lap 2 and zoomed away from the field. But McGarvey was undone when he contacted a lapped car on lap 9 and ripped off some of his body work which flew onto the track and caused a caution. By track rules he was sent to the rear and Gallaher assumed the lead. He then moved away from the field to the finish, followed by Dwayne Tanneyhill, Dan Lee, McGarvey, who rolled from the rear in only 11 laps, Doug Hardy, John Kuzemchak, Yvette Hahn, Steve Bard, Bill Burns and Donnie Hedge.  McGarvey and Gallaher won the heats.

Dave Korlewitz was the early Street stock leader but after holding off challenges from Ashley Barrett, He finally surrendered the lead to McDonough on lap  4.  After that, McDonough led to the finish ahead of Barrett, Billy Mcclelland, Matt Hayman and John Swartzwelder.   Barrett and Mcdonough won the heats.

Jamie Kohan led about half the Pure Stock event before getting overhauled by Tom Warren. Warren then led Kohan, Greg Custer, Barry Weyandt and Donald Lybarger to the end.

Jim Tunstall took the wild 4 cylinder feature which featured a wild flip on lap  6 by  Adam Darr.  Tunstall beat Jamie Swank, Kristen Etling, Nevin Hause and  Chris Booher.

Thunder Valley, reopened after a season in inactivity, will be in action again next Saturday with warmups starting at 7:00.
