2008 Semi-Lates

  1. GENERAL

    1. 1965 to date domestic, complete-bodied car.
    2. Rear wheel drive only.
    3. No jeeps, 4WD, FWD, station wagons, compacts, convertibles, sports cars, sun roofs, T-tops, 3/4 ton or 1 ton trucks or dual wheels
    4. Minimum wheel base of 106".
    5. Frames and body must be the same manufacturer
    6. Cars must remain stock except for modifications listed below.

  2. FRAMES

    1. Open frame rails may be boxed in and A X@ braced.
    2. Rear frame rails may be replaced with at least 2 X 3 x .095 box from center of rear end back.
    3. Frames must match manufacturer of body.
    4. Front cross member may be altered for fuel pump.
    5. No altering or mismatching of frames.
    6. On uni-bodied cars only, a homemade frame, may be constructed using steel rectangular tubing only with a minimum specification of 2" x 3" x .120 wall thickness.

    1. The 3" dimension must be in a vertical position.

    a. If using this option, it must start at rear of the front stock OEM sub-frame and

    continue all the way back to the front of the OEM rear sub-frame.

    2. Springs and locating bars for rear will be measured and compared to stock specifications

    for legality.

    3. The proper construction of this frame option on welds, cross members, rollcage and brace

    tie-ins will be up to the discretion of the officials.

  3. ROLL CAGE

    1. Four post design.
    2. Must be welded 360 degrees and gusseted.
    3. All posts must be attached to frame
    4. Front bars must follow the contour of the windshield.
    5. Rear roll bar must be behind the driver.
    6. Must have two bars from top of rollbar to rear of car.
    7. Driver must have 2" of clearance above helmeted head.
    8. Seamless tubing of 1 2 " X .095 or seamed tubing of 1 3/4" X .095.
    9. Driver= s door must have four horizontal bars and passenger door must have three horizontal bars with all bars gusseted and attached to the vertical bars.
    10. No screwed type pipe fittings.
    11. Should have a minimum of one cross bar in top halo of rollcage.
    12. No offset cages or set back cages. Set back will be determined with a measurement between rearend center line and main cage rear hoop centerline. This distance must not be less than 23".

     

  4. EXTERIOR BODY

    1. All glass, lights, lenses, chrome strips, emblems and grills must be removed.
    2. Body must be steel, no flat sheet metal

      1. Must meet OEM dimensions.

      2. Must retain body style lines & shape.

      3. Must be stock appearing and identifiable

      4. Hood must have three (3) hood pins across the front of the hood.

      5. No air induction systems.

      6. Full fenders only with reasonable radius cut for tire clearance.

      7. Front inner fenders may be removed if fender remains secure.

      8. Rear inner fenders are optional.

    3. No roof raking
    4. Hood scoops are permitted.

      1. 3" high at highest point - 24" at widest point.

      2. Open at rear only and must be complete to rear of hood.

    5. No spoilers permitted.
          1. 358 C.I. or smaller are permitted a 4" spoiler.
    6. No bracing outside body permitted.
    7. Doors must be welded and/or bolted shut.
    8. Bumpers must be welded to prevent loss. Absolutely no sharp corners.
    9. May use radiator or rear body hoop, but must be behind body parts.
    10. Plastic nose and tail pieces are legal

      1. Must match manufacture of car.

    11. Protective bars and screens must be in windshield.
    12. Windshield visors must not exceed 4".
    13. Cars may not use any more than 6" of plastic on bottom of car.
    14. Tow hooks are MANDATORY.

    1. Must have front and rear tow hooks securely mounted to support the weight of the car.

    2. Must be visible from outside of the body.

    3. A $20 FINE WILL BE ACCESSED IF YOUR CAR HAS TO BE TOWED AND YOU DO

    NOT HAVE A TOW HOOK.

    O. No exterior rub rails.

     

  5. INTERIOR BODY

    1. Must have a steel firewall and floor pan. (20 gauge highly recommended)

      1. Must have complete floor pan from front fire wall to 12" behind driver= s seat.

    2. Interior of car must be completely sealed from engine compartment.
    3. Must have sloping rear firewall from behind seat to bottom of rear window area.
    4. All bars near driver must be padded.
    5. No batteries, fluid reservoirs, fuel lines or tanks in driver= s compartment.
    6. No mirrors or reflective devices .
    7. No radios or two way communications.
    8. Interiors must be open. Absolutely no tunneling.
    9. Must have removable steering wheel.

     

  6. APPEARANCE

A. Officials reserve the right to request body or sheet metal to be replaced if it has any sharp edges or is not presentable to the sport.

B. Acceptable appearance of a car is up to the discretion of the officials.

1. A car can be refused the right to race due to its appearance.

C. Cars must be neat in appearance and have identifiable bodies.

    1. Numbering must be legible, highly visible, and contrasting to car.

1. Numbers must be 18" high.

2. Any letters must be 9" high.

3. No trick lettering.

    1. Car number must be in upper right hand corner of windshield and left rear taillight area in 4" high

numbers for line up purposes.

    1. Duplicate numbers will be modified.

      1. The number will go with the first car registered for the season with that number or based on previous attendance.

    7. ENGINE

    1. No aftermarket blocks permitted.
    2. No engines shall exceed 406 cubic inches.
    3. Engine must be original equipment for the manufacture of car.
    4. Engine set back will be at its maximum and verified when the center of the center of number one spark plug hole on all engine makes ( furthest cylinder forward) is in line with the center of the top working ball joint.

      1. No sliding motor mounts.

    5. No removal of casting numbers or any alterations to numbers allowed

F. Solid motor mounts permitted.

G. CID of motor must be on both sides of hood in 3" letters.

 

  1. **HEADS

    1. Stock, OEM type with no altering - CAST IRON ONLY
    2. No angle plug or high performance heads.
    3. No shaft rockers unless they are OEM on that head.
    4. Guide plates and screw in studs are permitted.
    5. Roller rockers are permitted. Absolutely no stud girdles.
    6. World Product S/R Torquer heads will be permitted under the following casting numbers:

      1. Chevy: I-052

      2. Ford : I-056

      1. Chevy vortec heads are permitted with no alterations and as long as they were used on a production vehicle. GM Vortec part# 25534371 and 25534351 will not be permitted.
      2. No Ford GT40/N, Chevy Bowtie, Chrysler W2 or any other performance heads permitted.
      3. No porting, polishing, welding, grinding or acid etching permitted
      4. Gasket matching permitted - MAXIMUM depth 3/4".

 

  1. **INTAKE

    1. Any OEM manufactured manifold of dual plane design will be permitted.
    2. The only aftermarket intake that will be permitted are Edelbrock Performer numbers as follows:

      1. Chevy 2101 or 2116

      2. Ford 2181

      3. Chrysler 2176

      C. 358 CI or smaller may use any intake manifold except tunnel ram.

      1. No porting polishing, welding, acid etching, or grinding.

 

10. CAMSHAFT

    1. Any flat tappet camshaft permitted.
    2. No roller, roller type or mushroom lifters permitted.
    3. Lifters must retain OEM diameter for that block.

 

11. **CARBURETOR

    A. Any one carburetor of 2 barrel design is permitted with no modifications except possible removal of the choke plate.

         b.  Not to exceed 500 cfm

    1. Stock Holley carburetor (500cfm model 4412) is permitted.

            --No demon carburetors permitted

B. Must have stock style fuel pump in stock location.

     1. No electric fuel pumps permitted.

 

  1. IGNITION

    1. Ignition must be stock OEM distributor and coil only.
    2. No trigger systems allowed.
    3. No Accel, MSD or Mallory ignitions permitted.
    4. HEI ignitions - coil must remain in distributor.
    5. Points ignitions - coil must be stock.
    6. Only one ignition per car.
    7. Only one coil per ignition system.
    8. One ignition box permitted on car.

 

  1. BATTERIES

    A. Batteries must be securely mounted outside drivers compartment and ahead of rear axle.

    1. NO BATTERIES IN DRIVERS COMPARTMENT.

    14. STARTER

    A. Car must have a stock type starter and start under own power.

    15. MUFFLERS/EXHAUST

    A. Mufflers are mandatory.

    B. Inserts, racing or stock-type mufflers are permitted.

    1. Stock manifolds or headers.
    2. Must have 3 2 " collector for each side if headers are used.
    3. All exhaust should exit outside the car or behind driver seat.
    4. No through the car exhaust. All exhaust must be out of the cars interior.

16. TRANSMISSION

A. Factory stock transmission with all working gears.

B. Automatics must use a torque convertor.

C. Five speeds are not permitted.

D. No aluminum driveshaft.

17. CLUTCH

A. Stock type clutch and flywheel.

B. A 360 degree steel bell housing is mandatory. (Ex. Blowproof)

C. Dog type or triple disc is not permitted.

D. No aluminum or exotic metals in clutch or flywheel.

    1. Absolutely no modifications to clutch or flywheel.

18. REAR END

A. Any stock type production rear end.

B. Rear end may be locked.

C. No internal traction control device

 

  1. FUEL CELL

A. An approved cell, 16 gallon maximum, securely mounted in the trunk of car.

    1. Square tubing is permitted in the rear section of the frame for the fuel cell to be mounted.
    2. Cars must have an approved fuel bladder and container that is at least 18 gauge(or its equivalent) or thicker for the container, with a minimum of two hold down straps at least 1/8" thick and a minimum of 1" wide, that are installed parallel to the rear frame rails. Must be located in the trunk area between frame rails and behind the rearend.

1. If TVR officials determine a fuel cell container is being used for ballast, you

may be assessed a weight penalty or be asked to change your fuel cell container.

D. Container supports must be mounted to the frame rails in a secure manner.

1. Any fuel bladder and container extending below the frame should be properly protected by both bars and bracing.

E No fuel lines inside the car unless they are enclosed in a metal pipe or tubing for the entire length of the area that runs through the car.

    1. No copper or rubber fuel line. Steel only.

G. Bottom of fuel cell must be at least 12" from ground.

H. Fuel cell vent line should have one way inline check valve to prevent fuel spillage.

I. Ballast may not be added to the inside of fuel cell.

J. No part of the fuel cell container can be no more than 3-16" thick.

  1. FUEL

    A. Pump or racing gasoline only.

    B. No additives of any kind.

    C. Fuel may be tested.

  2. **SUSPENSION

    A. No modifying of any suspension parts.

    B. Non-adjustable steel racing shocks are permitted.

    C. Suspension parts must remain in stock location for the make and model of the car.

    D. Non-adjustable racing springs with a minimum of 5" diameter.

    E. Shocks may be relocated from inside of springs. Limited to one shock per wheel.

    F. Aftermarket panhard bars are not permitted.

    G. No adjustable type weight jacks are permitted - even if they are spot welded.

    H. Rear Leaf spring cars are permitted as long as the body style matches the chassis. Ex - Camaro body on Camaro chassis, etc......

  3. BRAKES

    A. All four wheels must have operating brakes.

    B. No driver adjustable proportioning valves.

    C. Calipers and rotors must be stock OEM (steel).

    D. Non-adjustable dual master cylinder are acceptable, but must be equally proportioned with same size pistons in each master cylinder.

    E. 4-wheel disc brakes are acceptable (OEM ONLY )

    F. No drilling or lightening of rotors or any brake components permitted.

  4. WHEELS

    A. Steel wheels only.

    B. Five oversized lug nuts with studs protruding through the end of the nut a minimum of 1/4".

    C. Wheel width not to exceed 10"

    D. beadlock wheels will be allowed.

     

  5. TIRES

    A. Tires may not exceed 14 1/2" sidewall to sidewall

    B. Tires may be grooved or cut.

    C. No rough tread tires or recaps are permitted.

    D. No bleeder valves.

     

  6. **WEIGHT

A. Cars running a 358 CID or smaller engine must weigh 3000 lbs. with driver after race.

B. Engines Larger than 358 C.I.D.

1. Minimum weight 3400lb. Without restrictor plate.

2. Minimum weight 3000lb. With restrictor plate.

        a. Restrictor plate must be purchased from Thunder Valley Raceway.

    C. Number of cars to be weighed will vary from week to week.

        1. You will be notified by the officials as you exit the track as to how many cars will be weighed that night.

        2. The officials reserve the right to spot check car weights after any event.

D. All ballast must be in front of rear end center line and securely mounted.

1. 358 C. I. or smaller may position weight anywhere behind rear end.

E. All added weight must be painted brightly with car number on it.

    1. Added weight inside drivers compartment must be securely mounted with weight clamps. Weights may be no higher than 10" from top of the lowest part of the frame.

G. Track scales will be considered official.

26. **SAFETY

A. Aluminum racing seat is required. If seat does not have a headrest, one must be installed.

B. Five-part nylon quick-release harness and safety belt are required - 2004 or newer. Harnesses must be attached to frame.

C. Approved firesuit is mandatory. Firepooof gloves, hood, socks, shoes and underwear are recommended.

D. Full-face helmet with lexan shield - snell 95 or newer is mandatory.

E. A window net minimum of 12" X 12" is mandatory. Latches must be seat belt type and accessible from outside of car.

F. Driveline hoops are required and driveshaft must be painted white. Driveshaft hoops must be 2" X 1/4", 360 degrees and no more than 6" behind U-joint.

G. An operational fire extinguisher (with gauge) within driver= s reach is mandatory.

H. Must have a removable steering wheel.

    1. Highly recommended a collapsible steering shaft be used.
    1. It is highly recommended that the drive side door bars be plated with 1/8" aluminum or 1/16" steel plate from top door bar to bottom of frame.

NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final.
